For twenty-five years the Center for Wildlife, in Cape Neddick, ME, staff, interns, and volunteers have provided medical care, safe sanctuary and humane treatment for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife until they can be released back into the wild. The Center for Wildlife is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide medical treatment and sanctuary for sick and injured wild animals, and to promote respect for wildlife and the environment.
Now the largest wildlife medical clinic and education facility in Maine and New Hampshire, Center for Wildlife provides the full range of treatment services needed to rehabilitate birds, mammals and reptiles; assisting the public with issues relating to wildlife; and providing educational and outreach programs to promote knowledge and appreciation of wild animals and the habitats they depend on for survival.
The Center’s mission also extends to providing information and education to children, students, adults and the general public – raising awareness of the many wonderful wild species that live among us and a heightened sensitivity to the impacts humans have on their lives. Since 1986 we have increased our services to match the increase in demand from the community, and we now provide:
- A “Wildlife Assistance Hotline” answering 20,000 calls a year by our wildlife professionals
- A medical clinic that admits and treats over 1,650 patients annually
- An education and outreach program that reaches over 5,000 participants per year
- A volunteer and internship program providing training and workshops to over 70 people annually
- Research partnerships including UNH, Biodiversity Research Institute, and Tufts Wildlife Clinic
The Center for Wildlife is funded almost entirely by donations and support from members of the community. We receive no state or federal funding as there is no government program dedicated to the medical care of wild animals. We are so grateful to be working with B-Positive Project, and your donation helps support our core programs and services that provide medical care and inspire stewardship for local wildlife and the community. All donations are greatly appreciated and recognized. Please visit our website: www.yorkcenterforwildlife.org for more information!
