Lowell General Hospital will host the 2010 TeamWalk for CancerCare Event on Sunday, May 16, 2010
Join together with more than 3,500 walkers from across the Merrimack Valley for the region’s largest fundraising event. By walking this year you will make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Since it’s inception in 2000, TeamWalk has raised over $3.5 million and more than 10,000 people have received assistance. Money generated by TeamWalk enables Lowell General Hospital to provide help in many forms. It funds innovative support programs for patients, their families and caregivers; financial assistance for medications; and transportation to and from treatments. Twenty-one years ago, on July 5th Eric Donovan was born to Mark Donovan and Kathie Rhodes. Eric is the oldest of two brothers; Gregory and Austin. Mark is the Captain of the Scituate Fire Department, and works hard to support and provide for his family.
Growing up in Scituate, Eric found a passion for the ocean and a love of boating. Summer days were spent on the Spit, throwing around the football and swimming in the water. When Eric was in seventh grade he volunteered his time as a camp counselor for the Scituate Recreation Department. It was unknown at that time, that nine years later his positive influence and dedication to the children of Scituate would still be going strong within the recreation department.
At 15 years of age, Eric was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare malignant round cell tumor most commonly found in teenage boys. His chances for survival were a mere 30%. Amazingly in August 2009, after a six- year battle of his life, Eric was cleared of this disease. However, just a few short weeks after this miraculous news, Eric was critically injured in a diving accident at the beach. His father Mark was on duty at the Fire Department and was called to tend to this accident. Only upon his arrival did he realize it was his son who had been injured. Eric suffered severe fractures of the C1 and C2 vertebrae and shattered his C5 vertebrae in his neck. This trauma left Eric paralyzed from the chest down; a quadriplegic.

A Van for Lucas is a charitable organization that is working to raise $40,000 to Purchase a Wheelchair Equipped Van for Lucas O’ Healy da Silva a Moraga, CA resident.
The idea was by Karyn Bergen, who was inspired to help after listening to a service on the radio which encouraged the audience to “do something for someone in the community.” A Van for Lucas has arranged a local community partnership with the Contra Costa Youth Council (CCYC) which allows a joint fiscal sponsorship enabling the organization to provide tax deductions to all individual contributors. 100% of contributions will be applied directly to the purchase of a wheelchair-equipped van.
Lucas is an amazing child who is faced with a variety of challenges. He has a rare chromosome disorder (only case worldwide) that has made him completely dependent on the aid of others. Lucas is unable to walk, crawl or even sit on his own. His wheelchair allows him to participate in the activities that we take for granted, such as attending school, going to the park or even eating a meal. In his chair, Lucas can sit at a desk with his classmates, look at books, work on puzzles and play with toys.
To help make a difference order one of our products and we will donate$5 to a Van for Lucas. Click here to purchase http://bpositiveproject.com/products
