The tsunami that rushed through Japan this passed Friday, March 11, seemed surreal to watch over the television.
Coverage shows a long wave racing at almost 600 miles an hour towards the coast of Japan. From the air though, the wave looked like it moved in slow motion, and once it reached the shoreline it seemed to effortlessly destroy homes and buildings, and carry debris from people’s lives miles away from where it used to be.
The tragedy of hundreds of lives being lost is hard to pinpoint any good coming out of it. But seeing the efforts and heroic nature of volunteers from organizations like the Red Cross, and local soldiers and firefighters from Japan, who instead of fleeing the shores in the wake of one of the worst disasters, they ran towards it.
There is still so much to be done as homes and cities are left in ruin.
